Puppies in Pontiac are coming down with Parvovirus
PONTIAC, Mich. (WXYZ) – Puppies in Pontiac are getting sick. They’re contracting Parvovirus or Parvo for short. It’s highly contagious and deadly.
Angie Ransdell of the Michigan Animal Adoption Network says the symptoms are loss of appetite, bloody stool and other classic signs of regular sickness
“Once you get it, it can be treated but it’s very expensive and it’s very difficult on the animal too,” Angie says.
While there aren’t any exact numbers of how many puppies have died from Parvo – Ransdell says 300 out of 700 streets in Pontiac have had reported cases.
And it affects dogs of all ages – not just puppies.
“Please make sure your dogs are up to date on their shots and make sure you’re aware of exactly what Parvo is and that it’s highly contagious,” she says.
Ransdell also says make sure everything is sanitized and get your puppies and dogs spayed and neutered.
