A local animal welfare agency that helps rescue stray cats and dogs throughout metro Detroit is seeking the help of the public to continue operations.

The Animal Care Network, which is part of the Michigan Animal Adoption Network, is in need of pet food donations and other essential supplies for the rescue agency.

The Roseville-based animal welfare agency says poor economic conditions have affected the organization’s pet food donations, which, in turn, places its operations in jeopardy.

Pam Porteous, manager of the agency, says that tough economic times have placed a strain on obtaining the resources the organization relies upon.

“When the economy is bad, nonprofit organizations are directly affected and these are some of the programs that are vital to the community in hard times,” Porteous said. “Many people are giving up their pets because they cannot afford to feed them or get them fixed, this program gives them another option and resource to be able to keep their beloved pets.”

Founded in 1994, the Michigan Animal Adoption Network is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for animal rescue in metro Detroit. The mission is to target low-income and poverty-stricken communities by providing rescue, spay/neuter services and other resources for animals. The group conducts focus efforts, street work and door-to-door methods in specific target areas to make an impact and results can be monitored.

Those interested in making donations to the agency can call 248-678-2756, email miaan@att.net or visit michigananimaladoptionnetwork.org
