July 6, 2013: Cindy Merz – R.I.P our friend

The Animal Care Network, as well as so many family and friends, even just acquaintances, said goodbye to our beloved Cindy Merz this weekend.

The funeral home was packed with people that loved this amazing lady, each and every one of us had our own story with Cindy Merz and many of them were told during the remembrance ceremony in between playing Cindy’s requested songs “Landslide” by Stevie Nicks and “From a Distance” by Bette Midler. What a powerful and emotional day it was. Everyone was there for the same reason, we all had a common bond and it was just good to talk to one another about Cindy, meet fellow admirers and friends, look at her video photos and look at her tribute book. Person after person, even children proudly stood up and spoke, many cried and many shared stories about Cindy’s humor, selfless ways, feisty personality and unique ability to connect and communicate with anyone and everyone.

As one of Cindy’s friends said today at the graveside “I have never seen a celebration of life such as this”. Cindy was laid to rest at The Preserve, in All Saints Cemetary in Waterford. It was a beautiful touching ceremony, as swallows, goldfinches and dragonflies flew over
all of us.

Cindy was a rare and unique kindred spirit, we were blessed to know her and have her in our lives. We will miss her beautiful face, with her big soulful eyes and amazing, illuminating smile. We will miss her inner beauty and love for life, people and animals even more.

“There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power.
They are from a pure heart. They are messengers of overwhelming grief…and unspeakable love.”

In honor and celebration of Cindy’s birthday on July 15th, we will have teams hitting the streets of Pontiac to check on the pet owners and animals that she cared for and helped and many others that need help! This program was one of Cindy’s pride and joy, very close to her heart. Her dear friend Latasia Sawyer thought this would be a great tribute to Cindy and we agree!!

Cindy will live on in all our hearts and we will proudly carry on the street program in her memory.
