WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) – A dog that caretakers have named Hope seemed to have run almost out of it on February first when she was found in a garage by someone showing a house to potential buyers on Sherman in Warren.
Was she used as bait in a violent dog fight? Marie Skladd with the Michigan Animal Adoption Network thinks so.
“Bring in some special trainers and a special foster home that we can teach her that not all humans are the same,” she said.
Skladd’s group is now nursing Hope back to health.
“At this present time, she has an incredible journey, a long road ahead of her. We have to heal all these wounds. We have to get her some confidence. We have to put her through the heartworm treatment,” she said.
Meanwhile, Warren Police say the dog may have been attacked on the streets randomly by another dog.
“Based on the fact that there was no paraphernalia of any sort inside this vacant garage, such as weights or things you would most commonly also discover,” said Warren Police Deputy Commissioner Louis Galasso.
The adoption network says take a close look at her mouth. There are no cuts, indicating the animal may have been muzzled in a fight.
Skladd had the following message if anyone did throw Hope into a dog fight.
“When it comes to your judgment day, good luck,” she said.
If you think Hope was involved with some kind of dog fighting ring, you are asked to pick up the phone and call the Warren Police Department.
Dog fighting is illegal, but happening across metro Detroit. In our second video report, FOX 2’s Roop Raj has a look at how one group is trying to rescue the dogs.
